The Queen Charlotte Track is also relatively close to my home (about one hour by car) and is very popular with walkers and mountain bikers.  My cousin lives very close to the start of the track.

One section of the track is closed to bikers over the busy summer months but at other times of the year bikers are free to ride the full 67km track.

The riding is generally fairly mild, with just a few unpleasant switch back sections. The track is in good condition and, although I only had my 5 Spot to ride, I think it would be much nicer on a hardtail.
