순정 맞습니다...ㅎ...초창기 mtb 또는 ATB에는

싯튜브나 탑튜브에 펌프를 고정할 수 있는 일종의 스터드가 붙어 있었습니다.

이것은 70년대 유행이었던 투어링바이크의 영향이라 볼 수 있습니다.

원래 데오레는 1980년 하세베 마사유키에 의해 설계된 투어링 바이크용 부품이었습니다.

이걸 게리피셔가 자신의 Clunker 에 탑재했고,

미국 서부지역에서 유행하는 히피들의 이러한 놀이문화가 수익성을 가져다 줄것이라 예상하고

투어링 데오레에서 진일보한 부품을 

1982년도에 시마노는 발표하는데 이것이 바로 최초의 산악자전거 전용 부품군인  '데오레 XT' 죠.

예전까지는 원서로 된 매거진이나 단행본으로 알 수 있었던 내용인데,

한국어로 출판된 '시마노이야기'에도 위 내용이 잘 정리되어 있네요.

물론 이 책에도 일본애들 특유의 역사왜곡(?) 역시 들어가 있습니다...ㅎ...(참고로 왜의 역사왜곡과 식민사관: http://blog.naver.com/knightblack/10106920711)

(이 책을 읽다보면 "세계는 넓고 할일은 많다"라는 책이 생각나는건 왤까요??)

브이 브레이크가 자기네들만의 설계로 탄생된 제품이란 궤변부터...선투어 관련 이야기...

로드 쪽도 보자면, 듀라에이스가 탄생하기까지 많은 영향을 줬던...미국의 맥마흔(지금의 맥마흔하곤 다른 업체임)

유럽 컴퍼넌트 업체인...

캄파는 차치하고서라도 생플랙스, 작스 휴렛 그리고 스페인의 자존심인 ZEUS와의 관계나 언급이 거의 없네요...ㅋㅋㅋ

어쨌든

MTBR에서 다뤄졌던 Deore에 관한 토론 중 신빙성 있다고 생각되는 문장만 아래 6개 문항으로 간추려 봅니다.

That's what I've always been told by many people in the industry. Deore = Gold. Despite the components of today, Deore was one of Shimano's best touring groups, and became their second best MTB group in the late 80s.

Well if we eliminate the spaces we get the word "deorext". Of course "deo" is a form of the latin word for God and "rex" is the latin word for king which leaves the phrase "God King T". This is of course referring to Mr. T which is obviously a reference to how Deore XT components don't like to get airborne.

They are just monikers for different product lines- from lea$t to mo$t: DEORE, LX, SLX, XT, SAINT, XTR.

As for what Deore means, here's what Dale Benjamin said years back (in a conversation with Sheldon Brown):

Those are all made up names, not unlike Sony, Walkman, Corolla, Camry
and the like. The Japanese often have difficulty coming up with
English-like brand/model names that make any sense.

I believe Deore is supposed to mean "golden" due to its similarity to
that term in several romance languages. (D'or in French, d'oro in
Italian, something similar in Spanish.)

Shimano often uses trendy terms chopped apart and stuck together.

"Exage" was made by grafting "excelence" "new age."

"Ultegra" derives from "ultimate" and "integrity."

Now reading what "eddubbfrom.." writed about Deore I wonder how much of spanish root some shimano names have. Some are spanish words, but wonder if is what they mean;
-Acera means "sidewalk" in spanish.May also come from "Acero" which means steel.
-Alivio means "relief" in the sense of getting rid of a load, or a worry.

From a totally speculative, and quite un-PC angle (I'm asian, so I can get away with it):

Early Shimano MTB components featured a Deer Head as part of the logo. Perhaps when it came time to actually name the product lines, one enginneer looked at another and asked, "Well, what do you call this animal in English?"

The result? All your component are belong to us.

LX as a designation for higher quality may have been a carryover from the Japanese auto industry.

XT - no idea. eXTra? eXtra Tough?

XTR - definitely stands for XT Race. Documented in a number of places.

I have always assumed a connection to "d'or" ("of gold") as in "Compasso d'Oro," "Palm d'Or," etc.

Very early Shimano 105 groups ("Golden Arrow") used gold lettering for the name Shimano.

아.. 그리고 또... 그 머시기... 데오레의 기원에 대해 다른 설이 있더군요...

데오=골드=-좋다가 아니라...

데오=디어의 일본식발음=카세트모양이 쭉쭉 뻗은 사슴뿔 모양이라 이렇게 붙였다는 설도 있더군요..ㅎㅎ...

뭐 정답이야 개발자만 알겠지만..^^...

아...그러고 보니 초기 XT부품군 중에 "디어헤드"란 이름으로 출시된 적이 있답니다.
